What Your Disney Opinions Say About Your Hero-Villain Ratio
Uncover what percent Villain or Hero you are based on your likes and dislikes: Disney characters edition.
0 commentsDisney characters are as varied as a fictional genre can offer. If we do a deep analysis of the classical and new titles of the company, we can easily come up with dozens of archetypes of those characters. However, when looking at a fictional piece overall, it’s most logical to differentiate three major archetypal categories, each with distinct traits, motivations, and narrative roles. Do you think you would be a Disney villain or a Disney hero though? Let’s check!
The Hero/Heroine
These characters typically undergo a transformative journey, facing challenges that help them grow, often motivated by a quest for identity, justice, or saving others. They inspire audiences with their courage and perseverance. They are often kind-hearted, brave, and driven by a sense of duty.
They often start as underdogs or uncertain about their future, face a defining hardship or antagonist, and ultimately achieve victory or self-realisation through inner growth.
The Sidekick/Comedic Relief
These characters offer support to the hero, providing comic relief and emotional balance. Often the voice of encouragement, they help lighten the mood during intense scenes and teach the hero valuable lessons about friendship and resilience. They are incredibly loyal and, most of the time, quite humorous. Always endearing.
Though sidekicks may not undergo a major transformation, they often have moments of bravery or wisdom that help the hero and deepen their bond.
The Villain/Antagonist
The villain presents the main obstacles for the hero, pushing the plot forward through their schemes and moral opposition. They often symbolise the challenges or fears the hero must overcome to achieve growth and self-realisation. And no matter their backstory, they are ALWAYS ambitious and cunning. One of the perks of Disney villains in particular is their charm. Which often make fan favourites.
Villains typically reach a peak of power that puts the hero in a seemingly impossible position, only to be defeated by the hero’s resilience, love, or purity.
